Florida Marriage License
You must purchase a marriage license in the State of Florida to be married in the state of Florida, without question!! This can be obtained from a clerk of court office in any Florida county. All County Clerk of Court offices are open Monday through Friday 8:00AM to 4:00PM. They are closed on all major holidays. Please allow at least 1 hour at the court for this license to be prepared. Licenses are not available on Saturdays and Sundays. In Monroe County, you can contact the Plantation Key Government Center, mile marker 89.5 bayside at 305-852-7145 with any questions.

You must have the marriage license before your wedding day. This license is used to legalize your marriage. A marriage license can only be obtained at a county courthouse in the State of Florida.



  1. There is no waiting period for out of state residents.
  2. Florida residents have a 3 days waiting period, unless you have obtained a pre-marital course certificate prior to applying for the license.
  3. No blood test or medical physical is required.
  4. Both parties must be 18 years of age or older.
  5. Both parties must be present to sign for the license and have proper ID ( driver's license, passport, or original birth certificate).
  6. The marriage license is valid for 60 days ONLY from date of issue.
  7. A marriage license is $88.50, this must be paid in cash only.
  8. You will need to know the dates of a divorce or death of former spouse if applicable.
  9. You must have the license with you at the time of the ceremony. I will sign it and complete the information on the license. I will then mail it to the clerk's office where it was purchased. After the license is properly recorded by the clerk, a validated copy will be mailed to you at the address that you gave to the clerk's office. You should receive this within 2 weeks of your wedding.
